In this tutorial, you will learn how to manage your rescuers, volunteers, donors, and members.
By default, only users with Super Admin access (and specific users they give the permission to) are able to access the Managing your People Settings.
Managing Your People
It’s important to understand that WRMD is not meant to be a constituent database. However, since your constituents, especially your rescuers, are a very important part of wildlife rehabilitation, WRMD has included some features that allow you to collect some basic information on the people who are important to your organization – rescuers, volunteers, donors, and members – for easy reference and cross-referencing of data.
For the safety and privacy protection of people’s personally identifiable information, only SuperAdmins (and specific users they give the permission to) have access to any of the people related features in WRMD, including the viewing of the rescuer’s tab on a patient or looking up any past rescuers when admitting a patient.
Step 1
Visit https://www.wrmd.org/signin and log into your account using the username and password that you registered with.
Step 2
Go to the Quick Links panel on the left of the page and click on People.
Step 3
You will be taken to the people page. Here you have access to all your Rescuers, Volunteers, Members, and Donors. Find the person or organization you are looking for under the relevant tab; then, click on their name.
Step 4
You will be taken to a page where you can view, modify, or add a person’s or organization’s basic information. You will be able to see their contact information, whether they have made donations, what patients they have brought in, as well as see how they are affiliated with your organization.
- Contact & Affiliation Tab: Displays the contact information of the individual or organization and how they are affiliated with your organization. A person or organization can take be a rescuer, volunteer and/or a member. Indicating affiliation, allows for additional cross-referencing features in WRMD.
- Donations Tab: Displays all donations the person has given to your organization. This tab also includes tools where you can add, delete or edit donations.
- Patients Tab: In this tab, you can see a list of all the patients the person or organization has brought to your center.
Step 4
When you have finished updating or adding information, click the green Update button at the bottom of the page.
Adding Rescuers
A Rescuer is a person who has brought an animal to your facility. They can be an individual person or an organization. They can also be volunteers, donors, members, and donors.
When you create a new patient, you will input the Rescuer’s Information on the intake form. (Ses “Adding Rescuer Information and Donations” in How to Admit a Patient).
All of the information about the rescuer is automatically stored in the people database.
Because WRMD stores the rescuer’s name and contact information in the People database, it gives you an advantage the next time that same person brings in a patient.
Should that same rescuer bring in a new patient, all you need to do on the intake form is search for their name. WRMD will pull up and automatically fill in the relevant fields with their contact information.
Adding Volunteers and Members
A Volunteer is someone who volunteers at your facility by providing assistance onsite or off-site. A Member is a person or organization that is affiliated with your facility by providing service or support. Volunteers and Members can also be Rescuers, Volunteers, and Donors.
When a person is a volunteer (or is affiliated as a volunteer), WRMD offers additional cross-referencing features making it easy for you to connect a volunteer with a patient’s care.
For instance, suppose your patient needs home care. When you are on the patient’s record under Adding New Location, you can indicate Home care in the Holding At field. This will prompt you to indicate who the caregiver is. When you click in this field a drop-down menu will appear with your volunteers’ names. WRMD pulls this list of names from the People database. You can also see the Using Locations tutorial for more details.

Combine Duplicate People
Occasionally, you may have repeated instances of the same person in your database. By combining these repetitions, WRMD will work more efficiently for you because it will make WRMD’s cross-referencing more accurate.
